About

Biography

Maite Correa is an associate professor of Applied/Spanish Linguistics in the Department of Languages and Global Studies (LGS) at Colorado State University. She holds a PhD in Applied Linguistics and an MA in Hispanic Linguistics from the University of Arizona, as well as a BA in English from the University of Deusto in Spain. Her research examines how language education intersects with identity, power, technology, and professional practice. Her publications address critical and inclusive approaches to heritage-language education, second-language acquisition and pedagogy, phonetics and pronunciation, academic integrity, language-program outcomes, and the use of digital tools and generative AI in language learning. Her sociolinguistic research also explores language contact, multilingualism, and linguistic landscapes, particularly the roles of Galician and Basque in the community of Trintxerpe, Spain.

Her current work extends into Languages for Specific Purposes and computer-assisted language learning. In collaboration with CSU’s Center for Languages for Specific Purposes Education and Research (CLEaR), she is conducting a needs analysis for a Spanish for First Responders course. She is also interested in how online learning communities, including those associated with Duolingo and Reddit, shape and frame language-learning practices.

Dr. Correa teaches courses in language-teaching methodology, Hispanic linguistics, and Spanish phonetics and phonology. Until 2028, she serves as senior faculty mentor for the Blake Leadership Scholars Program for the College of Liberal Arts.
